Referring Counsel

I take referrals in legal malpractice and fiduciary litigation. My screening process is the same whether the call comes from a client or from another lawyer. If you have a client who may have a claim against a prior lawyer, a trustee, a personal representative, or another fiduciary, let's start with a phone call. A short description of the lawyers, the parties, the duty, the breach, and any known deadline is enough to start.

What helps:

  • Who held the duty
  • What the underlying matter was
  • When the client first learned of the problem
  • Any hearing, inventory, or limitations date already set
  • Whether any work still needs to be done on the underlying matter (an appeal, dealing with judgment, estate or trust issues, etc.)
  • Whether you need to stay involved or prefer a clean handoff

Next Steps

Call 801-923-8885. I will need you to identify the prior lawyer or firm, the underlying matter and all parties, and the date you first learned of the problem.
